Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis Partners with the Data Foundation on COVID Impact Survey

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Data Foundation is pleased to announce a partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis for the COVID Impact Survey. The COVID Impact Survey is a government and philanthropic effort to provide national and regional statistics about physical health, mental health, economic security, and social dynamics in the United States during the COVID epidemic.

The COVID-19 Impact Survey, launched by the Data Foundation on April 9, 2020, was rapidly developed to capture the emerging impacts of COVID-19 across America and to provide decision-makers with clear information about the prevalence of coronavirus.

“Policymakers need real-time data on the widespread impacts of the coronavirus,” said Neel Kashkari, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. “The COVID Impact survey has the potential to give us critical information on both public health and economic developments that could lead to more informed policy decisions and ultimately better outcomes for the American people.”

The COVID Impact Study was inspired in part by a proposal from Abigail Wozniak, Director of the Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank.

“The Data Foundation welcomes the partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis,” said Nick Hart, President of the Data Foundation. “The COVID Impact Survey was designed to fill an information void. The COVID Impact Survey will help policymakers across America, like those at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, by providing timely, reliable, and accurate data to understand the impacts of the pandemic.”

The first week of results will provide national level estimates as well as sub-national estimates for 18 jurisdictions. The first round of data collection will be released in the last week of April. Additional details about the project and opportunities for contributing are available at www.covid-impact.org.
